We are a group of black women who love to read, want to read more and meet like minded women. We are here to inspire women to read, share literature, fellowship, and encourage others in the joy of reading. We meet in Inglewood on the first Saturday of the month from 4pm to 6pm. We are an eclectic group of women and so are our reading selections. On our web site www.mochagirlsread.wordpress.com we have a inspirational book of the month posted every first Sunday; a children's book posted every Mon …

You’ve experienced the page turner. The book that’s so compelling it forces you to silence calls, stay up later than your early morning permits, and respond in a brusk and irritated tone to any and all commitments calling you away from the story. A story that’s so good, it makes you want to do something about it. Who’s up for a book club that’s one part reading, one part discussion, and one part action? Let’s read Bukowski one month and hold our discussion in the central library that Bukowski fr …

The Tasty Book Club pairs good books with good food. We read a variety of genres: silly books, smart books, memoirs, literary fiction and, yes, we even once read a book about werewolves. We pair the book with food or countries that appear in the book. If a book takes place in Greece, we eat Greek food. If we read a book that takes place in the American South, we go for BBQ. And so on. We aim for diversity among our book choices. Everyone is welcome to suggest books, but preference is given to b …

The purpose of this group is to read Marcel Proust's masterpiece: In Search of Lost Time [nee Remembrance of Things Past] from cover to cover together. We will meet regularly to discuss the portion we are all reading. We may have celebrity Proustian guest speakers come to meetings. We will celebrate our achievement with a special event!
I started this group because I love to read fiction, and to talk about it with others. This is a group for people who feel the same way about books to get together over coffee and eggs (or whatever), talk about books, and make new friends!

I decided to start this group because I enjoy reading and I'd like to meet other fellow readers in the area. We will meet monthly to discuss a book chosen by a member. We will take turns choosing the month's book based on the first members to sign up. The monthly meeting place will also be determined by the member whose turn it is to choose the book. They can choose both book and location based on convenience, relevance, or any other whim that interests them. Snacks and drinks are not off limits …

This club is about reading and discussing science, horror and fantasy fiction, old and new. We are looking for members interested in a wide variety of books within these genres.
… We will discuss how to create characters so real, they practically jump off the page, how to weave storylines to make an interesting plot, what writing software to use to help you write your novel, how to re-write and edit your manuscript, how to submit query letters to agents and editors and how to get published. We will also have critique groups so you may get constructive feedback on your manuscripts, as well as writing sessions to spark the next great idea, or simply to practice writing …
This is an informal gathering every week that is designed to promote feedback on work, and to highlight the strengths of one's work as well as offer ideas to improve weaknesses. Attendees are encouraged to bring pieces to read that they are comfortable sharing. Poems, Essays, and stories are all fair game. Generally, anything over 4-6 pages will be read over several sessions. We recommend bringing extra copies if you can. The general flow is some gab time at first. Then people will read the work …
The idea of this group is to establish a community of writers that can learn from eachother on many different levels. Whether this is through critique groups, free writing, reading, talking, etc. I hope that this group has something for everyone. This group welcomes writers of all levels. This is based on the philosophy that we never really stop learning. No matter your walk of life, we all have some knowledge to barter. Or pilfer, as book bandits do (no stealing or plagerism is insinuated w …
If you're new to comics or a lifelong fan, you'll enjoy our monthly meetings to discuss the great and near great of graphic novels. Comics for adults are a burgeoning art form that any literate person should familiarize themselves with. Each month, a different club member picks a selection that we'll all read and discuss at our monthly meetings. We've been meeting for about two years now, and we've already discussed works written and drawn by Dan Clowes, Chris Ware, Neil Gaiman, Marjane Satrapi, …

Sick Minds is not your traditional/original book club. No romance novels, best sellers, Oprah's list or tear jerking books allowed. This book club will be reading bizarre and entertaining books that are also humorous and sometimes considered disturbing to the common folk. Death: A Life by George Pendle is one example. It is a humor book written in a memoir style about Death. One of my sons helped me name the group after I was trying to define a sick mind. He actually did something sick that I …
